DIY Aromatherapy Playdough Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
- 5–10 drops of your favorite essential oil(s)
Instructions:
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the flour, salt, and cream of tartar. Mix well.
- Add the Wet Ingredients: Stir in the water and oil. If you’d like to color your playdough, add a few drops of food coloring at this stage.
- Cook the Dough: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture forms a thick ball of dough (about 2–3 minutes). Remove from heat.
- Cool and Knead: Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes. Then, knead it on a clean surface until it’s smooth.
- Add Essential Oils: Once the dough is slightly cool, add 5–10 drops of your chosen essential oil(s). Knead thoroughly to evenly distribute the scent.
Recommended Essential Oils:
- Lavender: For relaxation and calming vibes.
- Orange: Uplifting and cheerful.
- Peppermint: Refreshing and energizing.
- Chamomile: Gentle and soothing for kids.
- Cedarwood: Calming with Focus.
Storage:
Keep your aromatherapy playdough in an airtight container or zip-top bag. It will last for several weeks when stored properly. While not necessary, I like to keep mine in the fridge.
