Do you ever get frustrated with all the ads for drugs? Did you know in many countries it is not even legal to advertise drugs? Do you listen to the long list of side effects or read the fine print on those you take home? Do you pay attention? At home people don’t refer to these as drugs- no, that has a bad connotation. They call them medicine. But are they?
Food is is medicine, herbs are medicine, essential oils are medicine, homeopathy is medicine, thoughts are medicine, sunshine and light are medicine, exercise is medicine, breathing is medicine, grounding in dirt is medicine, sound is medicine, nature is medicine, love is medicine, prayer is medicine, rest is medicine, temperature can be medicine, pets are medicine, touch is medicine, minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals are medicine. Of course there are more, but this is a good starting place. These all contribute to the body finding homeostasis, balance, wellness.
Do you know what doesn’t heal? What just manages or masks symptoms, blocks natural processes causing symptoms, or hijacks natural processes in the body forcing them to do certain things? What always has side effects, whether short or long term, and whether or not you feel it consciously? Drugs, synthetic forms of some of those natural medicines, and cheap copies that can never replicate the complexity of nature. What is called “medicine” by many. Don’t get me wrong, in emergencies, we need this kind of medicine sometimes; it can save lives. And there are a few cases where they are needed longterm. But when using it, we must be aware that it does not heal, and is most likely causing other issues that may or may not be discovered right away. Drugs should not be used long term in most cases.
Your miracle of a body, however, when given what it needs naturally, can heal itself. Sometimes you only need a little support to come back into balance, sometimes your body is crying out for a lot of support and you need a lot of help to bring it back into balance.
Years of poor diet, toxins in food, personal care products, air fresheners, laundry products (yes I’m listing those 2 separately for a reason), cleaning products, pesticides & herbicides in food and environment, toxic relationships & trauma, drugs in any of their forms including v’s, heavy metals, lack of some of the items in the second paragraph- all these things combine to create a very unbalanced system that will give you signals if you will just listen. These signals come in the form of symptoms usually, or just a feeling of being unwell.
Don’t mask the symptoms! Don’t just pop a pill! Find the root cause. It can be like peeling an onion- not without tears- and with many layers. Take care of the roots issues and things will resolve because our bodies were created to self heal. Will it take a while? Most likely. Will there be setbacks and frustrations? Yep. Is it worth it? Yes!! Can you bring back homeostasis? Definitely!
